Your first visit to Caponera Orthodontics

Your First Visit

At your first visit to our office, Dr. Caponera will examine your teeth and take any necessary records to determine the type of treatment you may need including treatment time, the type of appliances and the cost treatment. If you decide to have treatment at our office a more detailed set of diagnostic records are made to further determine the best course of treatment. Complete diagnostic records typically include a medical/dental history, clinical examination, iTero scan of the teeth, photos of the patient's face and teeth, and X-rays. This information is used to develop a custom treatment plan for each patient. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care. After Dr. Caponera has evaluated your records, we discuss your treatment with you in detail.

The appointment when you get your appliances (braces, expanders, etc.) usually takes 1 hour. You'll then see us at regular intervals 4 to 10 weeks apart for an adjustment, which takes 10 to 40 minutes. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately.

As you consider orthodontic care, it is likely that a few questions may naturally arise. Don’t be afraid to ask Dr. Caponera questions you might have at your first appointment. The Caponera Orthodontics team is eager to help make your orthodontic experience amazing.

Here are a few examples of questions you may want to ask at your first appointment:

  • Is there an estimated length of time that I will require braces?
  • How much should I expect to pay for my treatment? What are the payment options?
  • Does getting braces hurt? Is there anything I can do to prevent or minimize pain?
  • Is it likely that I will be wearing extra appliances in addition to braces to correct my overbite or other problems?
  • Are there specific foods I will need to avoid when I get braces?
  • Will braces prevent me from playing my favorite sport or musical instrument?
  • How can I keep my teeth clean with braces?
  • How often will I be expected to come in for check-ups and other appointments?

With answers to your questions from the Caponera Orthodontics team, you can be confident about any necessary orthodontic treatments. From your first appointment to the day your braces come off, your orthodontic treatment at Caponera Orthodontics can be a smooth and uncomplicated process.
